Thank goodness for Alex, our Canto-connection and speculated nephew of our squid hunting guide and captain, "Dr. Wong." This lovely old Chinese man and his Tai Tai successfully navigated us to the squid breeding grounds right outside of the harbor. With a gorgeous Sai Kung sunset as our backdrop, we cruised along at 2.3mph, trying to soak in the short lived ocean breeze while strategizing our hunting tactics.
As I struggled to catch any squid at all, Dr. Wong sat next to me, reeling in squid at a rate of 10 per minute. Was it It my Gweilo pheromones that scared the little creatures away, hmm most likely just my bad technique. Bryndee was first to taste success while T wowed us all by perfectly imitating all of Dr. Wong's swift and deliberate arm movements. Samantha won the prize for flinging her squid across the boat at the first sight of the live creature.
